Welcome to our blog, a virtual space where we share our three passions: high mountain horseback routes, equestrianism, and the wonders of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Let us introduce ourselves: we are an equestrian tourism company based in the Benasque Valley, in Huesca (Aragon), near the border between Spain and France. We specialize in organizing multi-day horseback routes, offering our clients the opportunity to explore mountain landscapes of incomparable beauty and to enjoy nature-friendly tourism. We also organize other equestrian and educational activities.

The Anima Equi team is made up of experienced guides who are passionate about horse riding and nature. This is reflected in the care with which we design each route and in how we share our knowledge and enthusiasm for the mountains with our visitors. We also have a herd of mountain-adapted horses that live semi-free, are very safe, and love human company.

Our company offers a wide variety of equestrian activities adapted to different levels and preferences: from long horseback routes for experienced and adventure-loving riders, to gentler rides ideal for children and beginners, as well as training programs for those interested in becoming equestrian tourism guides.

Horseback rides through the Aragonese Pyrenees

Most of Anima Equi’s horseback routes are designed for intermediate and advanced riders, though we also offer easier routes for beginners, allowing people of all skill levels to explore the most spectacular landscapes of the Aragonese Pyrenees on horseback.

One of our most popular and thrilling routes is Discovering the Highest Pyrenees — a week-long horseback journey through the highest and most iconic landscapes of the Pyrenees, offering panoramic views and exciting challenges. If you'd prefer a shorter nature experience in the Benasque Valley, we recommend the Between waterfalls route, a two-day ride through glacier-shaped valleys, prehistoric vestiges, and beautiful hidden waterfalls.

For those seeking a more serene experience, Anima Equi offers equestrian rides and routes for intermediate or beginner riders.

For those who love high altitudes, we also offer the Kingdom of Aneto route (1 to 4 days), allowing riders to explore the area surrounding the Aneto peak, discovering stunning valleys and mountains. Other options include the Cerler Peak Route and the Heaven’s Retreat route, a two-day journey on horseback through elevated terrain with aerial views of the Pyrenean range.

And if you’re looking for something exciting or different, check out our Aneto: North Face and South Face route, a one-and-a-half-day journey exploring both sides of this majestic peak, or the Benasque under the Stars route, which combines a valley ride with an unforgettable night of wild camping. Discover these and many more rides on our routes page.

Beginner rides and children’s activities

For beginner riders looking for a more immersive experience, we offer the Senarta Route, a half-day 20 km ride that follows the Ésera River. It offers spectacular views of the Aragonese Pyrenees, visits historical remains from the Civil War, and explores the charming villages of Anciles and Benasque, rich in medieval architecture and history. Another option is the Gourmet Pyrenees route, ideal for those who want to combine horseback riding and nature with a unique culinary experience, enjoying traditional Aragonese cuisine at top local restaurants after each ride.

For those seeking a first-time or more relaxed experience, Anima Equi offers 1- or 2-hour horseback rides adapted to intermediate and beginner riders. The shorter ride, around five kilometers through nature, is perfect for children or those new to riding. It begins in Anciles and follows forest trails to a meadow with stunning views of Posets (3,375 m).

The pace is always at a walk, and children aged 5 and up can join, accompanied by a guide leading their horse on a lead rope. We also offer pony activities for the little ones, ensuring a fun and safe introduction to the equestrian world.

The two-hour ride, covering around twelve kilometers, offers a deeper exploration of the Benasque Valley. On both rides, the guide shares insights about the local flora and fauna, the glacial history of the valley, and its geological formations. Though still beginner-friendly, this route is slightly more demanding due to its length and elevation changes.

Equestrian training activities

At Anima Equi, we are committed to equestrian education and training. We offer several courses for those who want to deepen their knowledge. Our Introduction to Horses Course is aimed at those new to the equestrian world, providing an introduction to riding and basic horse handling.

We also offer riding lessons for all levels and an Introductory Course in Equestrian Tourism for experienced riders who want to learn how to organize and prepare for solo, multi-day rides through nature and high mountain terrain.

For those aiming to become professionals in the equestrian and nature tourism sector, we offer a variety of training programs. We teach the equestrian modules of the Outdoor Activity and Leisure Guide course (a formal qualification) in collaboration with IES Sobrarbe in Aínsa and IES Mar de Aragón in Caspe, designed for those pursuing a career as a nature and adventure guide. Modules include mountain biking, equestrian tourism, mid-mountain guiding, and canyoning assistant training.

We also offer, in partnership with the Aragonese Employment Institute (INAEM), a Professional Certificate in Guiding Horseback Routes in Natural Environments, aimed at training future equestrian tourism guides. See our full training offer here.
